The documentary Talking Hands, aims at raising to prominence the biogeographical region of Chocó, located in the Pacific region of Colombia, one of the most humid and richest ecosystems in the planet.
Through the voice of jewellers and other actors in the territory, the film makes visible the sumptuous cultural universe that communities have developed for centuries, around the 'barequero' (gold panner) and the goldsmiths.
The Afro-Colombian and Indigenous populations, with one of the lowest standards of living in Colombia, are trapped between State abandonment and the epic destruction of their environment, due to illegal, mechanized gold mining. Talking Hands calls for action to protect the dignity of the inhabitants, a rich ancestral heritage, and the unique biodiversity of Chocó.
