Help Make the “Talking about (the Silencing of) Palestine” Conference a Reality!
Dear friends, colleagues, and supporters,
In Germany even discussing Palestine is met with severe repression, censorship, and criminalization. We believe it's time to change that. With your support, we’re organizing the conference “Talking about (the Silencing of) Palestine” in Frankfurt, 16-17th January 2025—a critical platform to foster open discourse on Palestine, challenging the silence enforced on academic and public discussions.
Why Your Support Matters
Gaza continues to endure unimaginable hardships. At the same time, in Germany, recent state resolutions further suppress solidarity with Palestinians, constraining vital conversations in universities and stifling academic freedom and any expression of solidarity with Palestinians. The gap in academic research and open discourse on Palestine within German universities has been expanded, primarily due to the repression of critical voices and restrictive funding policies. This limitation in knowledge production raises significant concerns about academic freedom, particularly in contexts where institutional pressures stifle scholarly research and open debate about the humanitarian crisis in Palestine.
The mere humanization of Palestinians is faced with severe backlash in the public sphere generally, and academia specifically. Scholars and students advocating for Palestinian rights face mounting risks: from targeted smear campaigns to job loss.
Despite these obstacles, we—a coalition of students and academics from Goethe University Frankfurt—are determined to break the silence and bring Palestine into focus.
The Impact of Your Contribution
The "Talking about (the Silencing of) Palestine" in Frankfurt/Main, 16-17th January 2025 conference will bring together international voices in fields like Palestine Studies, Genocide Studies, and Holocaust Studies, highlighting the consequences of silencing Palestinian perspectives in academia. By supporting this event, you enable vital conversations that challenge normalized violence and shed light on what leading human rights organizations and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) deem a potential genocide.
Your donation will directly fund:
- Venue and logistical costs
- Travel support for Palestinian and marginalized scholars
- Accessibility resources to ensure wide participation
We’re committed to using every donation effectively; any excess funds will be donated to the ‘Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund’ and the ‘Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund’ to provide aid where it’s urgently needed.
Join Us in This Effort
This conference can’t happen without you. Institutional funding is not available for this critical event, and we rely on supporters like you to help make this gathering possible.
