On April 22th, 2022, Karen was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Since then, she has undergone four rounds of intensive chemotherapy and received clinical trial drugs as well as numerous blood and platelet transfusions. On August 30th, Karen was given the opportunity of a second chance at life by receiving a bone marrow transplant. Throughout this four-month treatment, her body’s inability to fight off foreign diseases has isolated her from the outside world. This has affected both Andres and Karen’s ability to continue their full-time professional lives.
