Talisman Club - Games Library Drive

The Talisman Tabletop Games Club is an after school club that has been meeting on Tuesdays since 2014.  It is made up of students from Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School.  This high school's primary population is made up of under serviced, inner city students. Most of these students' family income is just enough or sometimes not even enough to make ends meet.  This year we will start with 14 members, and we've been steadily growing.  It is more of a social group and gives students an outlet to be creative and experience the art of rules-based storytelling as well as social board gaming and card games that they may otherwise not experience in their home environment.

There is no cost to the school other than the use of space, occasionally a few laptops, and the large screen monitor already in place.  Students are supervised and monitored by Mr. Perez and are not allowed to wander the halls.  Students are encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks, then clean up after themselves and leave the room orderly and clean.

All of that being said, these students need more games in the games library.  That's what the money is for.  I really believe that everyone should have a place to go and fit in, especially these students - who I get to know on a personal level.  They show up religiously and most of them don't belong to any other clubs or groups.  Our group is getting bigger and they need exposure to a variety of games.  It's not realistic to have 15 or more people playing the same game, or sitting around waiting their turn.  We have 5 games in our library.

For those who might not deem it as important, these are teenagers who are learning social skills and how to fit in. This is hard enough to do as an adult and can be terrifying for teenagers.   For the Gamers, you understand, you already know the impact gaming has had on your own life. Gaming is one way to embrace the marginalized or those who just don't want to be on the sports teams or other clubs that just don't interest them.

These students don't have a way to raise this initial money to create a library of games that will interest and challenge them.   I bring my own games and print out what I can, but they need something a little better than what I can do on my own.  I'd like to expand the library of games to 8 or 9 games, but without help, it just won't happen.  They need the combined resources of people like you.  Is twenty dollars too much to ask for to make a dream a reality?  Honestly, I hope you find it in your heart to give that and more, so these students have a chance to be a part of something worth remembering.  When you give, just know that I cannot thank you enough.  Your generosity will be appreciated everytime that games locker gets opened.
