March 1, 2014, Talib had a near drowning accident, he survived but not without injury, causing damage to his brain and a disruption in his growth and development. As you could imagine this was a heart shattering, devastating time for my family and me. We were told he may never recover. Even if he did live, he would not be able to do much, he would not smile again, recognize his family, or even know his own name, the possibility he could die in his sleep was high. I had a conversation with my 22-month-old lying in that ICU bed fighting for his life. I could barely see his little body with the many tubes and cords covering him. I bent down, whispered in his ear, and told him to go. it is OK if you cannot fight any more, if you need to go, just let go, I will not be mad. If you stay though you cannot lay there, you must fight and live, and I promise I will fight with you. You know Mommy does not break her promises. That was one of the most difficult conversations I have ever held.
He made it through the first 72 hours (about 3 days) in the intensive care unit. After a month and a half, I was able to take him home. We have been fighting ever since, engaging in multiple therapies, traditional and alternative, trying our best to leave no stone unturned. Many of you have been with us on this long journey of healing for Talib. The progress Talib has made would not have been possible if it were not for God, and the strength, tenacity, courage, and Faith he has given Talib and I to keep persevering even through painful moments when I just wanted to give up; and all of you who were so generous with your love, prayers, monetary contribution, and kind uplifting words! Something Our family would forever be grateful for! Our family cannot thank you enough! Through many therapies and treatments over the last 6 years Talib has made tremendous progress! And I know A lot of you may be wondering where we are and what is next. I do not have to tell you, it has been a struggle, and life of course has not stopped with its many challenges especially this past year with the pandemic as with some of you, we too have experienced losing family members along with many other hardships it has brought. 2020 has affected Talibs progress with all the difficulties his treatments and therapies, has been at a standstill.
Mostly because financially, we have not been able do all we can for Talib. So once again with humble hearts we are asking you for your help, so we can get Talib the therapies and treatments he so greatly needs that would help him to continue the road to a full recovery! All of you who have supported us and continue to do so, I cannot tell you it has made this difficult journey A little easier for Our family to be able to bear! And please know that every day I count my Blessings and think of all you have done! because of you! I have seen the power “LOVE “has! And how your love has helped my son, and the great progress he has made! He still needs a little more help, I understand that these are tough times for us all and some may not have it to give, but whatever you can find in your heart to give we will receive with open hearts. My family would be incredibly grateful. Talib has not given any indications that he is ready to quit so I am not ready to quit, not just yet.
