I am thrilled to share that I have been given the incredible opportunity to attend an international folklore conference and conduct thesis research in Aberdeen, Scotland, in June 2025. This conference will allow me to present my research, engage with scholars from around the world, and further develop my academic work. As someone passionately committed to the study of folklore, religious lore, and history, I believe this experience is truly a dream come true.

Many of you know my story, but for those who do not, I am currently a senior at The Ohio State University pursuing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Studies, focusing on Folklore and Religious Studies. Despite maintaining a 4.0 GPA, I have often questioned whether grad school would be within my reach. However, opportunities like this conference make me feel that my dreams are possible. The University of Aberdeen, home to some of the most prominent folklore scholars, is my top choice for graduate school. Attending this conference will allow me to forge connections, gain valuable insights, and strengthen my application for future graduate studies.

About My Research

My thesis, Myth & Misogyny: The Passive Path to Patriarchal Perfection, explores how Grimm's fairy tales function as para-theological texts that reinforce Christian ideals of white female virtue through themes of obedience, purity, and self-sacrifice. By analyzing stories like Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, I examine how these narratives have historically perpetuated patriarchal gender norms and continue to influence modern culture.

Attending this conference will not only provide me with valuable feedback from experts in the field but also grant me access to crucial resources for my research. Additionally, I will have the chance to collaborate with other scholars studying similar themes, expanding the reach and impact of my work.
