Hurricane Melissa has severely devastated Jamaica — and the Wait-A-Bit community has been directly impacted. Families and children are struggling right now. They urgently need our help to rebuild, restore, and bring hope back to their community.
The children and their families are in urgent need of support to rebuild and recover from this catastrophic event.
The school, roads, and surrounding houses have been impacted immensely.
Immediate Relief from Your Donations
1. Food & Clean Water Distribution
Provide bottled water, care packages and non-perishable food to affected children and families in Wait-A-Bit.
2. Emergency Shelter Assistance
Offer emergency supplies such as blankets, mattresses, and hygiene kits for displaced families.
3. Clothing & Personal Essentials
Supply essential clothing lost to flooding or storm damage.
4. Medical & Health Aid
Cover the cost of first-aid supplies, basic over the counter medications for families with urgent health needs.

The 2025 Talawa Gala: A Night of Impact
On March 8, 2025, supporters gathered at the Belmont Event Space in Toronto for an unforgettable evening of Jamaican culture, hope, and giving.
Thanks to your generosity, we transformed Wait-A-Bit Basic and Primary Schools in Trelawny, Jamaica:
- Fixed dangerous electrical wiring at the Basic School
- Secured a new refrigerator (donated by the Custos of the parish)
- Repainted the playground, now bright, safe, and joyful
- Fueled the lunch program so no child learns on an empty stomach
- Supported over 20 students with fees, uniforms, and supplies

Upcoming: 2026 Talawa Gala
On January, Saturday 24, 2026, we will host our annual Talawa Gala in recognition of the United Nations’ International Day of Education.
This powerful event will:
- Celebrate the achievements of outstanding Jamaican students
- Recognize educators and mentors making a difference
- Launch the Talawa Scholarship Fund for the 2026 academic year
- Bring together donors, businesses, and community leaders to inspire collective impact
