Dear OOCC and greater SCORA Family,
Nate Talauega has left an impression on many of our lives; it is an unforgettable impression that we wish to honor. I would like your help in purchasing an OC6, named Talauega, and then donating it to Oceanside Outrigger for all to use.
Nate was a man who personified Outrigger Paddling.
- He'd be the first one in the yard, the last one there
- He'd give up his seat for any newcomer to take his place to make sure everyone got on the water
- he welcomed everyone and turned away no one
- He was a coach always, regardless if he held the title
- He went out of his way to create opportunities for all of us
Nate turned every workout, and every moment, into a joyful occasion. Nate brought this with him everywhere he went. We all spend so much time on the water to find happiness and peace; it is never hard to find when you have a friend like Nate.
I would like a friendly reminder of our fearless smiling Samoan every time I step into the canoe yard and take a stroke in a race.
The Logistics...
- All of the donations are being deposited into an account I set up specifically for this Fundraiser
- Once we reach $25,000 I will take care of ordering the canoe and arranging pick up
- Prior to donating the canoe to the club we will name it and bless it at the Oceanside Canoe Yard, inviting all that want to attend.
- I would also like to do something special for all the donors of the canoe, TBD. I am leaning towards signing the inside of the canoe and clear coating over.... I will happily take other suggestions!
- We found someone to cover the difference in cost if we don't raise enough
- If for any reason we are unable to secure a canoe I will reimburse all donations
Sincerely,
Philip Diehl
