Taktus Original Compositions and Demo Recordings

Donation protected
We are Taktus, a marimba duo from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. For over ten years, we have been rehearsing and performing together, cultivating our own unique sound and vibe through groove-based re-envisioning of classical and contemporary music. We have previously released two critically-acclaimed studio albums, Glass Houses for Marimba (2015) and Mirrored Glass (2020), featuring our own arrangements of minimalist music by Ann Southam and Philip Glass. In 2021, we released a virtual concert, Ambient Reflections, which included some newer arrangements of music by Aphex Twin.

We have big plans for our next album! We're beginning to work on creating some original electroacoustic music in the hopes of releasing a full-length album of originals within the next couple of years. We have already received a grant from the Toronto Arts Council, which is helping to get us started, but we need your help to continue to move this project forward.

We will be spending the next month composing and workshopping our ideas for four new pieces, but then we need to get into the recording studio to create demo tracks of our music. This is a critical step in the process because, in order to acquire a recording grant for a full album, we need to submit demo tracks that showcase the newly-composed music. These demo tracks are not the finished product, but they need to be of sufficient quality to demonstrate our artistic vision for the album. In order to afford the studio time and other resources required for recording, we will need to raise some support in addition to the grant funding we have already acquired.

If you would like to support us in creating our original compositions and recording the demo tracks, please consider donating to this fundraising campaign. Every person to donates toward this project will receive a digital copy of one of the demo tracks once they're finished. If you haven't seen it yet, check out our promo video for this campaign so you can see and hear a bit more of what we've been working on. You can also check out our YouTube channel to see some of our other work.

Thank you so much for your support! We couldn't make this project happen without you!
