CVAC for No. VA Pain Sufferers

Living with chronic pain can negatively affect mood, ability to enjoy daily life, and can bring about a feeling of hopelessness. I know because I live with a debilitating rare condition called Dercum’s Disease. Dercum’s Disease is an adipose tissue disorder that affects blood vessel function and lymphatic flow and causes painful fibrotic tissue to form throughout the body. Pain from Dercum’s disease can be in the fat tissue, lipomas, muscles, joints, and nerves. The disease tends to be progressive and pain becomes debilitating over time. For a brief summary on Dercum's Disease, please read Dercum's expert,   Dr. Herbst's White Paper on Dercum's.

Much research is still needed to understand this disease better but we do know that it affects many of the body's systems and pain management is very difficult to accomplish effectively with conventional medications. In Dercum's Disease the lymphatic system is sluggish which causes inflammation throughout the body. This inflammation becomes toxic to the body as it sits and is believed to be a major causal factor in increased diseased fat growth and wide spread pain.

Those of us suffering with adipose tissue disorders know how critical it is to get lymph fluid moving better. We have found hope for improved lymphatic function and pain relief in this amazing technology called CVAC (Cyclic Variations in Adaptive Conditioning).  Learn more about CVAC here.

Because regular ongoing use of the CVAC is necessary to achieve and maintain improved lymphatic function, improved breathing, and amazing pain relieving benefits, I am working to get a CVAC for my local area.

My name is Diane Takis. I have lived in Northern Virginia with my husband for the last 20 years. Prior to learning I have Dercum’s Disease, I worked for over 25 years in the field of residential and vocational rehabilitation supporting individuals with disabilities. I have a great passion for helping others in any way I can so my career had always been very rewarding to me. Soon after my diagnosis in 2012, pain and severe fatigue worsened making it very difficult for me to continue working. I struggled to accept that reality until my body just could not take the strain any longer. I was in tremendous pain much of the time despite many pain management interventions and therapies. I was having difficulty standing for more than a few minutes at a time and battling severe fatigue. I had come to the difficult realization that I needed to stop working so that I could focus on managing this illness. It meant giving up a career that I loved.  It also meant accepting a new definition of what "normal" would be for me.

The pain I have from Dercum’s is often excruciating and is more constant now. Standing or sitting too long can become extremely painful in my torso because of lymph fluid pooling.  At times, my hands become weak and painful and I am unable to open doors or dress easily. Walking often becomes difficult after short distances and I sometimes require assistance. My forearms are full of lipomas that cause muscle weakness and teeth gritting constant pain. My torso swells from fluid trapped in my tissue and the pressure from this pushes in on my ribs making it seem like there are ten elephants sitting on me. It is excruciating and often scary. Taking deep breaths becomes impossible and fatigue is a constant companion. Small bead like lipomas line my rib cage and are quite painful. Many of us with this disorder know this pain and the desperation for relief. We go through great lengths to do whatever is necessary to achieve even the slightest reprieve, often in vain.

The CVAC has provided great health benefits to many of us with adipose tissue disorders and those suffering with other causes of chronic pain. The CVAC process helps lymph fluid to flow better throughout the entire body. This helps reduce inflammation, which results in less pain and better overall health for those of us living with compromised lymph flow and chronic inflammation. When I have used the CVAC, I noticed remarkable improvement after just a few sessions in the CVAC Pod.

The CVAC improves my breathing, lessens pain, signficantly reduces fatigue, improves blood glucose control, and enhances my concentration. Unfortunately, there is no CVAC in my local area. I have traveled 4 hours to the only CVAC in Virginia however that CVAC is no longer available.

The best results from CVAC come from regular ongoing use.  This makes long distance travel to CVAC facilities impractical for sustained  better health. I am determined to change that so that I, and others like me, have a chance at living in better health and less pain.

My hope is to raise funds to purchase a CVAC so that the machine is available to people living in the Northern Virginia area who wish to use it for the pain relieving benefits or for improved physical conditioning.  Read more about the research on CVAC benefits here.

I am asking for your support! The CVAC is very expensive and not covered by health insurance. In many cases, this technology is the very best hope we have for living healthier and pain free.

Your donation is desperately needed to support the purchase of a CVAC for pain sufferers living in Northern VA.
