As educators, we are called to serve others, both within our school community and beyond. Service is more than an action—it’s a reflection of Christ’s love, fostering genuine connections and compassion. This year, our team is coming together to put this belief into action through an incredible initiative.
Our independent group of dedicated teachers are gearing up to take the Sylvan Lake Polar Plunge to raise funds for the Strong Like Sloane Foundation, an organization committed to fighting pediatric cancer through the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Why the Strong Like Sloane Foundation?
This foundation holds a special place in our hearts. Sloane Masikewich, the five-year-old niece of one of members, was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma in May 2023. From her initial symptoms of fever and leg pain to enduring countless medical procedures, Sloane’s journey has highlighted the urgent need for improved pediatric cancer research and treatments.
Did you know?
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children, yet only 7% of cancer research funding in Canada is directed toward pediatric cancers. The Strong Like Sloane Foundation is dedicated to changing this, focusing on innovative, less toxic treatments for hard-to-treat and high-relapse cancers. By supporting this foundation, we’re not only honoring Sloane’s courage but also raising awareness, celebrating survivors, supporting those currently battling, and remembering children lost to this devastating illness.
How You Can Help
Our teachers are taking on the icy waters of Sylvan Lake as a testament to their commitment to this cause, but they can’t do it alone. Your generosity will directly support pediatric cancer research and bring hope to families like Sloane’s.
Join us in making a difference! Together, we can nurture a spirit of love, serve those in need, and honor the children and families impacted by cancer.
Thank you for your support and prayers as we take this journey to encounter, nurture, and serve!
