I've signed up for the 2022 L'Etape du Tour de France.
If this means nothing to you, L'Etape is essentially an exact replica of a Tour de France stage, but open to 16,000 "normal people" to ride a couple of days before the real race.
Next year's route from Briançon to Alpe D'Huez is just over 100 miles long and involves more than 15,000 feet of climbing. For context, thats about 10% of all the cycling I've done since I started cycling "seriously" this summer, crammed into one day.
It'll be by far the hardest thing I've ever undertaken, and I'm only letting you know in order to try and make it worthwhile and rewarding not just for myself, but for some others too.
Hoods To Woods is a truly grassroots non-profit organization that aims to introduce kids in Brooklyn to the outdoors and snowboarding through various mentorship programs. Their mission is awesome.
I started cycling in order to get fit for snowboard season. I love both of these activities, and snowboarding in particular has given me some of the happiest moments of my life. Unfortunately, despite the immense joy they bring, both of these activities have huge problems when it comes to diversity, primarily as a result of access due to cost.
Hoods To Woods is working against this and for this reason, I am aiming to complete this challenge not just for myself, but in order to raise money and awareness for them.
Alongside just completing the course, my initial target is to raise $5,000 for @hoodstwoods. I have started by backing myself with $500.
I appreciate that it's been an insane, and in many ways awful, couple of years for many, with a countless number of worthy causes asking for your support, but I hope you, or someone you may know, might be able to help me achieve this goal. Every donation helps.
I'll likely keep this fundraising on the back-burner for the next couple of months before ramping up efforts 6 months out, but I'll be posting updates on social. In the meantime, please reach out for any words of advice, encouragement, or if you want to join me on a training ride.
Thank you for your time, generosity, and support! I love you all!
