Taking Life Back: Support For My Journey to Heal & Advocate
Donation protected
In one of my most vulnerable moments, someone I trusted took advantage of my guard being down and assaulted me, leaving me to navigate the lifelong impact of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Since then, my daily life has been shaped by this trauma—I struggle to sleep, fearing the dreams that bring his presence back into my mind. Crowded spaces overwhelm me, and I often have to excuse myself to regulate my emotions when I become too aware of being touched or surrounded by others. My mind feels like a broken record, replaying moments I cannot make sense of.
Despite these challenges, I am determined to reclaim my life. I have tried medication, but my body does not respond well to it. Through research, I discovered two highly effective treatments that could offer me a path forward:
1. TMS Therapy (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) – A treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the brain, helping it function correctly to alleviate symptoms of depression and PTSD.
2. EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) – A trauma-focused therapy that aims to reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories, enabling me to process them without triggering anxiety. This could help me sleep more peacefully and move closer to healing.
While these treatments have shown incredible success rates, they are prohibitively expensive. Compounding this is the medical debt I incurred from the medical care required after my assault, which included treatment for injuries and complications.
This trauma has significantly disrupted my life, forcing me to eventually pause my education to focus on my mental and physical health. However, I refuse to let it define my future. Since childhood, I’ve dreamed of working in public policy, but the first stop is my goal to become an attorney. Not just any attorney—I want to advocate for survivors of sexual assault. Experiencing firsthand the overwhelming reality of having my body treated as a crime scene and navigating a legal system with limited support from the district attorney ignited this purpose in me. No survivor should face that journey alone.
This GoFundMe seeks to raise $6,000 to:
* Cover the cost of TMS therapy and one month of EMDR therapy.
* Help reduce a portion of the medical debt related to my assault.
* Fund one LSAT exam and a year of LSAT prep courses to help me achieve my goal of a 175+ score (my current score is a 168). With this score, I aim to secure scholarships or admission to my dream school, Georgetown Law (the city where my grandma lives), where I can begin the next chapter of my journey.
Even if you are unable to donate, I encourage you to support organizations like RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) or local resources such as women’s shelters, mental health facilities, and survivor support outreach groups. My story is not unique, and your support could help others in your community who are navigating similar challenges.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any help—whether a donation or simply sharing this campaign—means the world to me as I work to heal, reclaim my dreams, and create a future where no one has to face this journey alone.
