As many of you know, Deputy Michael Costanzo was involved in a terrible accident on the Don Holt Bridge on July 1 when he was hit by a truck while helping a driver in a broken down car. Mike is the School Resource Officer at Sullivan’s Island Elementary and is well loved by our community and all that know him. Because of the nature of his injuries, the road to recovery will be long and he is going to need a lot of support. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, only one person is allowed to interact with him while he is in the hospital and that person is his daughter, 22 year old Sara. Sara will need to be be available to the hospital staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in order to make necessary medical decisions, be briefed by the dedicated team of medical professionals at MUSC that is taking care of her dad, relay that information to the family and community, and be the friendly, loving voice her dad hears while his body is healing. As a result, she will not be able to work and will be unable to keep up with her basic living expenses while taking on the very important role of caretaker for her dad which will last for months. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated and will go directly to Sara’s living expenses.
