Raul Haas is a father and a lifelong Cincinnati antique and estate jewelry business owner. For more than 40 years, Raul worked in the Cincinnati area, including Hyde Park and Lebanon, Ohio, building his businesses on trust, fairness, and genuine care for the people he worked with.

In early 2025, Raul’s family discovered that something was seriously wrong. Raul had been living in Mexico with his wife. Although we stayed in touch by phone, nothing prepared us for what we saw when we reunited at our son’s wedding in March. Raul had lost a significant amount of weight, dropping from around 160 pounds to closer to 120. He was pale, extremely thin, fatigued, ungroomed, and withdrawn. His voice was weak, as if he had not been speaking much at all. He seemed disoriented and fragile. His wife did not attend the wedding with him.

We insisted Raul see a doctor immediately. It quickly became clear he was not going to receive the appropriate needed care. A few weeks later, our daughter flew to Mexico and brought him back to the United States the very next day. It was truly a rescue mission.

Raul was taken straight to the emergency room and admitted for nine days. Doctors told us plainly that if he had not been brought in when he was, he would not have survived. After extensive testing, Raul was diagnosed with stage 3 Multiple Myeloma. He is now undergoing ongoing cancer treatment, including infusions, injections, and oral chemotherapy that he will need for the rest of his life.

As devastating as the diagnosis was, what we learned next was just as shocking. Raul’s life savings were gone. His investments, checking accounts, and life insurance policies had been emptied. His credit cards were maxed out. All of his money had been transferred into accounts controlled by his wife. When the family asked for accountability or assistance, communication was immediately cut off. Raul himself was blocked from contacting her. At this point, we do not know if any of his money will ever be recovered.

Raul now owns nothing beyond the clothes he was wearing. Due to the effects of his illness and treatment, Raul cannot safely live alone. He needs supervised housing, stability, and social interaction. We are working to place him in a safe and comfortable living situation where he can receive care and focus on treatment. There are also unavoidable costs to set up a livable space, including basic furniture and household items, so he can live with dignity and comfort.

Raul also has ongoing monthly expenses that continue regardless of his health, including insurance coverage, prescription costs, medical transportation, and everyday living needs. On top of that, there are out-of-pocket medical expenses tied to his cancer treatment.

His oral chemotherapy medication alone costs $26,000 per month. We are actively pursuing grants and insurance coverage to reduce this burden, but approvals take time and are not guaranteed. Until that happens, we need a financial buffer so his care and housing are not disrupted.

The family is currently doing our best to cover all of Raul’s costs. We are asking for financial assistance so Raul can focus on treatment and we can make his remaining time as comfortable as possible.

If you knew Raul, worked with him, or crossed paths with him through his jewelry or antique business, you know the kind of person he is. Maybe he sold you a piece you still cherish. Maybe he came to your home to help with an estate and treated you fairly when you needed it most. Raul treated customers, strangers, friends, and family with kindness and respect. He never hurt a soul and was always a joy to be around.

After a lifetime of giving to others, we are simply trying to give back to a man who gave so much.

Any contribution, even a dollar, truly helps. And if you are unable to donate, sharing this page is one of the most meaningful ways you can support Raul.

Thank you for taking the time to read his story.
