Take Sandra For a Drive

I would like to tell you a little about my grandmother, Sandra, in hopes that you will love her as much as we do.  My grandma came to live with us when I was in elementary so that she could help care for my brother and myself while my mom worked.  My grandma has showed tremendous love to us and those around her.  If you get a chance to spend any time with her, she will want to hear all about your life, and then she will tell you of her own. She'll share memories and pictures of when she lived in Africa and Mexico teaching the Bible.  If you stay too long, she will make you sing some of the many songs she learned from summer camp as a child.  It is amazing to me how she loves encouraging others whether strangers or friends and making people laugh even though she struggles with so much. 
In the last ten years, Gram has suffered several strokes and heart attacks, and as of recent vision loss in one eye. These things have weakened her physically, but have not stopped her from maintaining a positive attitude.  Last year was one of the most difficult. In the summer of 2017, she went into the hospital for a vein transplant in her leg, but unfortunately, it did not go well, and she ended up losing her right leg. Now, she is confined to a wheelchair and needs constant care.  In spite of it all, she still has high spirits. When coming to visit her, no one ever leaves sad.  Gram will make you laugh, leave you with a smile, and the desire to endure challenges as she does, with grace.

One of our fondest thoughts of her consist of how she enjoyed travelling the world and meeting new people… but they are also the most difficult to think of now because of her limited mobility. When taking her to her doctor appointments, my mother or I have to lift her in and out of the car. This is hard for her, as well as a safety risk for her and us.  As a result, it is complicated to take her to take her places she needs to go to and things she enjoys such as visiting friends, or taking her to run errands. We would love to get her a handicap accessible van so that she could have the freedom and dignity to not only make it to her doctor appointments, but also to visit her friends, go to the store, or just get out and see some sites without it being a hardship on her.

We have created this campaign for my grandma Sandra in order to get a handicap accessible vehicle for her. It is our hope that by November we will have the funds to buy a handicap vehicle.
