Many of the filmmakers we admire started in unlikely places.
Quentin Tarantino once worked behind the counter of a video store.
James Cameron was driving a truck before he went on to direct Titanic and Avatar.
Like many emerging filmmakers, my own journey is just beginning.
I’m a young director who believes deeply in the power of film to explore difficult questions about human behaviour, morality, and the moments when ordinary people are forced to confront uncomfortable truths.
The short film I recently made, "Nebuchadnezzar", is a satire/thriller that explores one of those questions:
What will YOU do when something terrible is unfolding? Pretend you don't see it? Or stand up and do what is necessary, regardless of the consequence?
Last spring I had the chance to watch my film with an audience in a theatre. Seeing how people reacted to the story was one of the most powerful moments of my life as a filmmaker.
And NOW something extraordinary has happened.
"Nebuchadnezzar" has been officially selected to screen at:
• Yale Student Film Festival
• Chicago Film Frenzy
• Sixth Borough Film Festival (New York)
These festivals are happening back-to-back from the end of March through to mid-April.
For an emerging filmmaker, this kind of momentum is RARE.
Why These Festivals Matter
These festivals are not just screenings. They are places where filmmakers meet producers, investors, collaborators, and champions.
They are also HIGHLY competitive. With an acceptance rate of 5-10%.
I'm grateful and proud that "Nebuchadnezzar" is a project that stands out amongst the bunch.
I will also be using this trip to pitch my next project; a timely Neo-Noir Action/Thriller which is currently in active development and scheduled to shoot later this year.
But opportunities like this come with costs. I'll be using the funds for:
- Road travel between three cities
- Accommodation
- Car rental, transportation and parking
- Events and meetings with potential Investors/Collaborators etc.
The Goal
We are aiming to raise $15,000 CAD within the next two weeks so I can make this entire trip happen.
Any funds raised beyond that goal will go directly toward the ongoing development phase of the feature film which includes hires, legal fees and travel for closing deals etc.
