Help me take my mums pain away
Hi my name is Bea & I’m 11.
My mum Helen who’s is 46 is a hero in my eyes..
She’s not a hero because she got multiple sclerosis aged 26 when she was doing her PhD, in something to do with DNA, & deals with its horrible relapses as they come.
Shes not a hero Although she worked in research, for the nhs, working on treatments to help people with virus diseases but she had to medically retire.
She’s not a hero, although she got serious pneumonia just after my dad left 7 years ago & got brittle asthma. I’ve lost count of the number of ambulances I’ve seen take her away, not knowing if she would come back.
She’s not a hero even though she nearly died of covid last year & was on a ventilator, & fought the battle of her life & came back to me my sister & stepdad. She now has scarred lungs & needs oxygen & has been in intensive care lots since. To add insult to injury she got bad arthritis in her knees 4 years ago & needs crutches to walk.
She’s a hero because even though she has gone through more things than she should, she is still my mum. She is the kindest person I know. She spends days & hours making fantastically imaginative birthday cakes for me & my sister. She laughs easily, that kind of laugh where she sounds like a donkey braying & can’t stop! She loves K-pop (specially BTS & Stray Kids)! She is passionate so has a quick temper, she has a pink hairbrush she throws down the garden!! But most of all she loves me in the best way. She will drop what she’s doing to play chess with me, even though she knows she is bad & wont win! She is learning Korean with me & one day we will go there. The phrase most said in our house is “I love you” (in English, Korean, French, you name it!)! There are always hugs, even in front of my friends where she’s tries to not be too embarrassing! She is non judgmental, open minded & I can talk to her about anything & she listens, properly. That’s why she is my hero.
But my mum is in pain. Her left knee is badly affected by the arthritis but she is too young for a knee replacement & it’s too risky for her anyway. There is a special brace that is from Canada which is ideal for her kind of knee damage. It’s mahooosively expensive & my mum doesn’t have much money. So I’ve decided to try & raise it for her. It would change her life. Help her pain & she could go on the family walks she used to love. Help me help my wonderful mum, please?
Thank you
Love Bea
