take DRIVING TOWARDS THE RAIN for a Fringe Debut!

Donation protected

Hi, I'm Adrian Goldman. I'm currently studying for an MA in Theatre Directing under Katie Mitchell at Royal Holloway.

We are raising funds to take Driving Towards the Rain/Ajaen kohti sadetta for its fringe debut! I wrote these poems over the course of twenty years - and last year Marjukka Savolainen suggested that we turn them into a movement/poetry/music piece. It played to sold-out performances at the FinnBrit players in Helsinki - and now we are taking it to the Fringe!

The piece is a unique bilingual poetic/movement/music physical encounter. It evokes the mundane, insignificant, frail moments that nevertheless make us who we are. The movement of two dancers and the sound of the clarinet interact with the poetry. Space is given for sound and movement to emerge in the moment. Who is it that we encounter in going back to those moments; a (past?) version of our self, or a fellow traveller? Parts of the poems are rendered in Finnish, inviting the viewer to feel how lived moments resonate in two languages.

The performers at the fringe are Adrian Goldman (movement, poetry), Katariina Harjunpää (movement) and John Millar (live music). We are all academics living our best 'second lives', but with long histories in dance, theatre and music. Lighting and design is by Karim Shohdy, also studying for an MA in Theatre Directing at Royal Holloway. Supporting us also supports him in his dream.

Our total cost is going to be about 3,000 pounds including venue, advertising, accommodation, travel. An anonymous donor has agreed to match the first 1,000 raised, so please donate early! It would make such a difference to us.

Please share our campaign with your friends, family, and community! If you’re unable to contribute monetarily, you can always support in other ways!

For donations over 50, we will send you a free poster; and for donations over 100, we will send you either a T-shirt or a bound copy of the poems in the show.
