Kiera developed CRPS (best described in the documentary on Netflix, "Take Care of Maya") that has caused prolific pain in her leg, foot and abdomen. Kiera has been unable to walk for over 240 days. The initial injury was on January 24th of this year. After countless doctor's appointments, ER visits, Ketamine infusions, nerve block injections and yes- even opioids, nothing can touch her pain. Kiera was accepted into Rady’s program in San Diego for their inpatient rehabilitation program for pediatrics with chronic pain. She just got her admittance date and will start her 4-6 weeks inpatient treatment Tuesday September 24th- California here we come. This disease will be life-long and prolific. The cost of RADYS program is $70,000- which we will have to write a check for on 9/24 at her admittance- plus living expenses for Mom as Kiera will be living in the hospital during this time and mom can’t stay with her.
We are leaning on family and friends in this horrific time we have already spent $50,000 dollars in medical expenses- in 2024- before her admittance to any program.
Despite having United HealthCare and working diligently with insurance and healthcare providers we have been unable to get approval for the treatment Kiera so desperately needs. It’s been a long road and an even longer road ahead.
