Dylan Bucci has been diagnosed with stage 4 Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that occurs in bones or in the soft tissue around the bones. Despite medical attention, it has metastasized to his hips, spine, pelvis, further up his arm and into his ribs and lungs. This young man is now in the fight of his life and beginning an aggressive course of chemotherapy.
Dylan is no stranger to kicking cancer. As a grade 10 student last year, he configured several Dell servers to communicate with the IBM World Community Grid and provide much-needed processing power to accelerate the search for cancer biomarkers for the Krembil Research Institute. In a first for World Community Grid, Dylan and his teacher actually traveled to Toronto to meet the scientists running the Mapping Cancer Markers project to see first-hand how volunteer computing contributes to the fight against cancer.

That is how awesome Dylan is. He is a kind, giving, selfless teen and his main worry is how his diagnosis and treatment plans will affect his mom Terri, dad Michael and brother Spencer. Dylan’s family want to provide him with some ease and comfort and the 15 year home reno plan isn’t going to work anymore – Dylan needs space now to be as comfortable as possible in a bedroom that fits his needs with easy access to the bathroom.
The goal of this GoFundMe campaign is to raise funds to improve the family’s second and third floors giving Dylan a place to retreat from the pain and fatigue so he can listen to his favourite music (everything from rock and roll to classical to emo grunge), watch Marvel movies (Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange) and curl up with his cat Jade.
