Take A Stand: A Concert for Black Lives

Donation protected
We are thrilled to open our 2020-2021 concert season, Take a Stand, with A Concert For Black Lives. This virtual concert, held in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, will also feature a panel discussion about the diversification of classical music. All proceeds from this page and our ticket sales on Eventbrite will go to Black Classical Music Educators  and The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. We’ve chosen to support both of these organizations in order to combat racial inequity on a national level as well as affect immediate change within our own industry.

You can view our live virtual concert coming up this Thursday, September 10, at 7:30PM EST on our YouTube page  and on Facebook Live . Donations will be accepted until September 18th.

Virtual orchestral performances will include Florence Price’s Symphony No. 4, Mvt. 2 and George Walker’s Lyric for Strings, in addition to solo and chamber works by Joseph Bologne, Tyson Davis, Alice Jones, William Grant Still, and more.

Performers include Clérida, Clifton Joey Guidry III, Natasha Loomis, Christina Morris, Mitzy Nonaka, Priscilla Rinehart, Michelle Rofrano, Pierce Yamaoka, and the PROTESTRA Orchestra.

If you would like to buy a donation ticket to the post-concert discussion with performers and panelists, please go to our Eventbrite to buy a ticket, as seats are limited.

Founded by oboist Jasmine Daquin, Black Classical Music Educators is an online space that makes it easy for students to easily secure private lessons with a Black classical music educator and provides a community for Black classical music educators to professionally engage with each other. They believe in the importance of representation and recognize the impact of having a teacher who understands your experience.

The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. They are currently undertaking multiple initiatives including fighting for renters’ and homeowners’ relief, working to lobby for legislation regarding accountability for police violence and misconduct, and making demands on governors, mayors, and police chiefs to secure protection for protestors.
