In June 2020, my father suffered a severe M2 segment stroke on the left side of his brain. The brain injury caused him to lose the ability to use motor function on the right side of his body and ultimately the ability to walk. The experience catapulted our family into a world we knew nothing about and over the last 16 months we have seen the impacts recovery can take on a family. Take a hike for Dougy is an initiative to raise funds for families that need support in the road to recovery from a brain injury. Wheelchairs, walkers and effective mobility tools are extremely expensive and it can be taxing on a family already going through so much to support their loved one.
My name is Hannah and I am the youngest daughter of Doug, who is the inspiration for this fundraiser. I am turning 30 on October 22nd and I wanted to do something in celebration of a new decade. I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate then to help those who are dealing with one of life's greatest challenges.
The funds from this campaign will go toward supporting families to access viable resources to aid in the road to recovery. We will be putting this money toward a family that needs a little helping hand in accessing mobility resources such as wheelchairs, slings, walkers and leg braces. In addition to collecting funds, we're organizing a 5K walk on the morning of October 23rd. You can do it anywhere and your participation + donation can be shared on your social feeds through the hashtag #takeahikefordoug. Anything helps and we appreciate any love you can give to our campaign. If a donation isn't in your wheelhouse, feel free to share it on your social media in order to spread the word!
