Taka’s Nazaré Challenge: Surfing for Bali’s Kids and Moms

Donation protected
Hello!

My name is Taka ‘s Gravemade, and for the past six years, I’ve been living in Bali, Indonesia, where I discovered and developed my passion for surfing. Now, I’m ready to take on the ultimate challenge: surfing the biggest waves in the world at Nazaré, Portugal!

This journey is part of my Greenstone project for Green School Bali. Through this project, I aim to show that with dedication and perseverance, dreams can become reality. But this adventure is about more than just me—it’s also an opportunity to make a difference and raise awareness for two incredible charities: Bali Surf Shelters and Bali Street Mums.

Why I need your support
To make this journey and project possible, I am raising €15,000. This amount will support both the project and the charities:

  • It will help cover essential costs for the journey, including travel, training, and creating a documentary to highlight the power of surfing and the impact of these charities.

  • A significant portion of the funds will directly support Bali Surf Shelters, a non-profit surf program I co-run with my best friend Leander, and Bali Street Mums, to provide underprivileged children and their mothers with a safe place, better mental health, and opportunities for the future.

Through surfing, we take children—many of whom have faced challenges like begging or child labor—and help them find confidence, joy, and a brighter future within the surf community.

Distribution of the Funds
The funds raised will be allocated as follows:

  • A portion will cover essential expenses related to the journey and the documentary.
  • A significant portion will go to Bali Surf Shelters and Bali Street Mums to directly support their vital work.

Any funds raised beyond the initial goal will be donated entirely to these charities to ensure they can continue making a difference for families in need.

About Bali Surf Shelters and Bali Street Mums
Bali Surf Shelters: I co-run this organization, where we provide surf therapy to children living in challenging circumstances. Many of these children come from Bali Street Mums, a nonprofit that offers them a safe place to live. Surfing helps these kids build confidence, improve their mental health, and find hope for the future. Our goal is to empower them with training and mentorship for careers in the surf industry.

Bali Street Mums: This nonprofit provides a lifeline for mothers and children who have lived on the streets. Through shelter, education, medical care, and emotional support, families are given a chance to rebuild their lives. Every week, children from Bali Street Mums join Bali Surf Shelters for surf therapy, where they can heal, grow, and dream big.

How your donation makes a difference
Here’s how your support can create a real impact:

$50 covers one month of meals, medical care, activities, and schooling for a child at the safe house.
$250 provides a child with everything needed for an entire school year, including books, uniforms, and school activities.
$250 funds 150 nutritious meals for children and families.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps these families move toward a brighter future.

How and where the campaign will be shared
This campaign will be shared in both the Netherlands and Indonesia. While I live in Indonesia, the campaign is organized in the Netherlands, and all funds raised will be managed transparently and allocated to ensure both the success of the project and meaningful support for the charities. By staying fully transparent about the use of funds, I want to ensure that every donation, big or small, truly makes a difference.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for supporting this impactful mission!
