My heart is heavy as I write this.

My mum travelled from Nigeria to Northern Ireland to visit our family. Sadly, she suffered a serious ankle fracture that required emergency surgery and hospitalisation. What was meant to be a joyful family visit has turned into a painful and frightening ordeal.

Because she is on a visitor visa and has no health insurance, we are being charged £627 per night, excluding surgery and medical procedures. She has already spent over 14 nights in hospital, and the costs are rising daily. Discharge has not yet been confirmed.

As a working family, we are doing everything we can — but the financial burden is overwhelming. We are now facing hospital bills running into thousands of pounds, with more expected as her treatment continues.

My mum is 66 years old, in pain, far from home, and deeply worried about the financial pressure this situation has placed on her children. No family should have to choose between medical care and financial ruin.

We are humbly asking for support — whether big or small — to help us:

• Cover her hospital accommodation costs

• Pay for post-surgery care and treatment

• Ensure she can recover with dignity and peace of mind
