Support for Taíno Indigenous programming by Ra
This page is to raise funds for some of the Indigenous programs that are organized and offered (free of charge) by Taíno-Borikua artist & educator Ra Jikotea Niaku’no Ruiz León such as: “Areito: Taíno Voices”, “Queer Taíno Voices”, and the “Anaba Taíno Poetry Workshop”. Hello/Hola/Miyari/Tau,
My name is Ra and I am an Indigenous artist and educator. My work focuses on promoting and celebrating Taíno culture and language. I organize and offer free educational programs such as:
- “Areito: Taíno Voices/Voces Taínxs” (A monthly gathering)
- “Kiwari Taíno Ahuiki’no/Queer Taíno voices” (A panel discussion)
- “Anaba Taíno Poetry Workshop” (Poetry Workshop)
These programs have been running for several years. They not only educate but also bring people together and create closer respectful connections among members of the Taíno community. I love the work that I do and I am able to sustain it via grants and donations. Which is why your support is greatly appreciated!
Funding goes to:
-Compensate featured guests: artists, activists, and educators
-Printing of poetry book from Taíno poetry workshops
-Costs related to facilitating and obtaining resources
By connecting to our culture and language we are decolonizing, healing, and empowering ourselves and others.
Who are Taíno people?
Taino people are one of several Indigenous Caribbean groups. Our ancestral homelands are in: Cuba, Boriken (Puerto Rico, United States territory), Ayiti-Kiskeya (Haiti-Dominican Republic), Jamaica, the south of Florida, and other lands.
Thank you/Gracias/Jajom/Arikoma bu for your support!
