On May 31, I had a diagnostic mammogram due to finding a knot in my breast. My doctor in FL, was already concerned about a lump that was found in 2021. After having an ultrasound as well that same day, it was determined that I needed a biopsy. On June 3rd, the biopsy was performed. Fast forward to June 7th while attending a Professional Development seminar, I received a call that would change my life. I have breast cancer. With the insurance I have, I am responsible for paying for 40% of my surgical costs which is a total of $4,460.38. My biopsy was $517. My partial mastectomy is scheduled for August 12th. The breast MRI was $569. More expenses will be added as I enter treatment. I have 5 sick days. I don't qualify for FMLA due to length of time on the job. Therefore, after 5 days of leave being used, the rest of my time out of work is leave without pay. I am a single woman with no dependents and do not qualify for any financial assistance.

Update: The surgery went well. Today I am experiencing redness and irritation. Follow-up is on Friday with both my surgeon and oncologist. We will be discussing my treatment plan and more time away from work. Thank you to all who have donated so far. I have a wonderful network. Love you all.

Aug 19th follow up: Waiting for pathology results to determine if I will need chemotherapy. As it stands right now regardless of whether or not I will need chemotherapy, I will have radion Monday - Friday from 3 to 5 weeks. Treatment will take place after my surgery recovery.
