TAHANAN (Home) Film Fundraising

Donativo protegido
Tahanan (Home) is a story about a family that has migrated to America due to financial struggles. Our story mostly follows a Filipino boy named Jerome, who is around 18 years old at the film's beginning. We see him still holding on to his emotional attachments in the Philippines and his unwillingness to leave them behind. And throughout this film, we will see time pass by, and we will see each of these characters fit into their shoes in a new country.

Any support is greatly appreciated, and it would be so great if you could help us make our film!

Nicholas Barber (Director / Producer / Writer):

"Being born and growing up in the Philippines, Tahanan is something very close to my heart. The story is about the struggle between the promise of a brighter future and the pain of leaving everything and everyone you know and love behind. We wrote Tahanan as a love story to the land we came from, we wanted to bring up not only the story of leaving home and trying to make a new home but also figuring out what "home" actually means. As we come closer to delivering our story to a big screen near you and hopefully to a service in your household we invite you to join our journey in getting there and helping out by donating or even sharing to loved ones and film lovers!"

Juan Raymundo Ramos (Producer / Writer / Editor):
"I've always been passionate about creating stories visually through editing in post-production. Creating a narrative Filipino film such as Tahanan is very exciting since I get to make a film that somehow represents my roots and culture. We initially planned on making this film back in 2019, but the pandemic caused the production to shut down. However, we're thrilled that we're finally making this happen, and we can't wait to show this amazing story to the world."

Nichole Ruiz (Producer / Director of Photography):
"This film is very special to me because I relate to it. I might’ve moved here a bit later in life and my family did not force me but that feeling of nostalgia and not belonging, I’ve definitely felt that."

Rasec Marc (Music Composer):
"Tahanan talks about the struggles of Filipinos transitioning into the American culture. The nuances of every family dynamic that is affected by overseas separation could only be understood when experienced personally. I want to write the music for this film because it gives me the opportunity to visit the very hurdles that made me the person I am now. The compassion I have for people struggling in their transition stages and the difficulty of starting a new community when English is not second nature. My personal experiences will align perfectly to the emotions of the characters in their journey of leaving their homeland."

Amber Luke (Costume Designer):

"I strive to create stories with meaning, honesty, and relatability. Tahanan checks all those boxes and more. The film is written by people with firsthand experience and it encapsulates the pain of homesickness through the lens of a filipino immigrant. It’s a story that comes from a tender heart. As a costume designer my job is to imagine and bring to life the characters in the script seamlessly through clothing, so that the audience and actors can be fully immersed in the film. My work is more impactful when there is true passion behind the project, and Tahanan's crew is full of it. I am certain that when you feel this film you will see the authentic nature shine through."

Hans Braga (Lead Actor):

"To be honest, I'm constantly homesick. As much as I love my new life in LA, Manila will always be home. And I know that countless Filipinos living away from the homeland feel the same way. Tahanan is OUR story."

Carsen Schroeder (Lead Actress):
I think one of the main reasons I wanted to be in Tahanan was after reading the audition sides, I could tell that there was so much here for me to learn. So much to learn about a new culture, to learn about myself, and to challenge me as an actor as well. I love when new stories can be told, and I’m really excited to be a part of this one!
