Our Mission:
A generation of Filipino-Americans grew up not knowing how to speak the native language of the Philippines: Tagalog. Their parents and grandparents immigrated to this country carrying the belief that English-only was the way to succeed. That generation are now the parents of today’s children—children who are growing up in a multicultural society that values and celebrates ethnic identity. Today’s parents are seeking to instill Filipino pride in their children, but finding a dearth of opportunities for doing so. Even though Filipino-Americans represent the second largest Asian group in the United States, almost 4 million strong, the availability of Filipino language and immersion programs lags far behind their Chinese, Japanese and Korean counterparts.
Tagalog Kids was created specifically for this underserved population. This non-profit organization is dedicated to the preservation of Tagalog and the celebration of Filipino culture. We began offering Tagalog classes to children of all ages in March of 2016. Since that time, we have expanded to three locations in the Los Angeles area with a goal to take Tagalog Kids nationwide.
Childhood remains the most critical time to learn language skills. Tagalog Kids’ goal is to provide children with an environment where they can learn and fall in love with Tagalog through a creative and stimulating curriculum. At Tagalog Kids, children not only discover the joy of learning Tagalog but also develop a lifelong passion and appreciation for the Filipino culture and values.
Tagalog Kids is a newly established Non-Profit organization. The class tuition funds the teaching staff and materials necessary for instruction. However, as with all non-profits, the majority of funding is donor-based. Each tax-deductible donation we receive lowers tuition costs and funds our expansion, providing access to the ever-growing number of Filipino-American parents and children seeking language instruction across the country.
If you would like to become a Tagalog Kids Donor and help us continue to enrich the minds of our Filipino youth, please donate today!
