The Unexpected Battle: Taeshaun’s Leukemia Story

At just twenty years old, Taeshaun Mallard was a young man full of promise. A freshman at Paine College, he was known for his bright smile, his natural leadership, and the way he made others feel seen and encouraged. With the summer break underway, he returned home, eager to work, spend time with family, and gear up for his sophomore year.

It started as something small—a bruise on his side that didn’t seem to fade. Taeshaun brushed it off, thinking it was just the result of work or play. But one hot afternoon, while visiting his grandparents, everything changed. As he stepped out into the yard, his body gave way. He collapsed on the grass, the world around him spinning before it all went black.

His family rushed him to the emergency room, their hearts heavy with worry. What was supposed to be a simple check turned into the unimaginable. The doctors delivered the words no family ever wants to hear: Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

The air grew heavy in that hospital room. For a moment, it felt like time stopped. How could this be? Taeshaun was young, healthy, vibrant. He had plans, dreams, a future stretching before him like an open road.

Yet, in that moment, something remarkable happened. Taeshaun, though weak, looked at his family and spoke with strength beyond his years. “Don’t cry for me,” he said softly. “God got me, We’re going to fight this together. I still have a purpose. I still have life to live.”

From that day forward, Taeshaun’s journey became more than a medical battle—it became a testimony. His story reminded everyone around him that life can shift in an instant, but faith, family, and resilience are stronger than fear. The bruises, the fainting, the diagnosis—none of it defined him. What defined him was his courage, his refusal to give up, and the way he continued to inspire others even in the darkest valley.

Taeshaun Mallard’s fight against AML became more than just his own—it became a call to his community to stand together, to pray together, and to believe that even in the face of the hardest battles, hope can rise.
We are raising funds for Taeshaun’s medical bills and care. He is undergoing chemo and awaiting a bone marrow transplant.
