Playing at Carnegie Hall & Credo

Hi, my name is Taerin Kim and I am 14 years old. In the 6 years I have played violin, I have been given so many great experiences. When I started playing violin, I was a part of the Evergreen School of Performing Arts in Minnesota. I later became a part of the “Singing Strings,” a chamber orchestra. In the summer of 2013, we were given the once in a lifetime opportunity to go on tour in Finland. We played many different types of music in many different places, and we were given the honor to perform in the Jean Sibelius House in Helsinki. On this journey, I got to meet lots of new people and play for many different types of audiences. Even outside of this wonderful tour, I participated in playing at nursing homes, festivals, and churches.
After moving to Michigan in 2014, I became a part of musical groups such as the Mid Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Performing Arts Student Club starting in 2015. I also participated in the 2016 and 2017 Michigan Band & Orchestra Association All-State Orchestra. I have learned that there are so many opportunities as well as challenges in the music world.
Recently, I was admitted into the National Honors Orchestra. This five day program in New York City is extremely selective, and being chosen as one of the top players nationwide is a recognition of my hard work. To play in Carnegie Hall would be a great privilege and an unforgettable experience that would add to my musical development.
In addition to the National Honors Orchestra, I have also been admitted into the Credo Oberlin Music Program. Getting into a program held by such a prestigious music conservatory as the Oberlin encourages me to keep learning and improving. This two-week camp would be incredibly valuable to me, as it would help me to grow as a student and performer. I believe that going to this camp will inspire me to keep pursuing my musical goals.
Performing the violin empowers me to share my love of music with others. These two great experiences would give me the knowledge and validation to share my love and passion for music with people in my community. Your donation would help me to do this by giving me the financial support.
