My name is Roman Moskalenko. I am a Ukrainian exchange student attending Oakwood High School in Morgan Hill, California. During my time here, the unthinkable has occurred in my home country of Ukraine. Russia has indeed invaded, and the fallout has been catastrophic.
This war that Russia has chosen to wage against us threatens the freedom of my family, friends, and the greater world. Each day seems to carry with it more news of violence and war. It is a miracle that my parents have endured as long as they have, and it is on their behalf that I write this.
After witnessing our neighbors fall victim to Russian soldiers, my parents attempted to flee with our pets and were successful in escaping the Bucha Massacre. As the smoke began to clear, they cautiously returned home to find that our house had been badly damaged by bombs and artillery. Our home needs extensive repairs and basic utilities restored before it can be lived in again.
I am raising funds to send back home. The money will be used to help my parents get their basic needs met, to rebuild our home, and to assist our neighboring community. There are many families beyond my own that need help, and we will do our best to see this money helps them too.
Words cannot express my gratitude for your kindness in helping my family, community and country. This war is brutal and senseless. I pray for Ukraine’s swift victory over Russia’s oppression.
