Taco's Journey: Healing from Heart Disease

Our story

On Sunday, May 11th, my beloved 11-year-old Chihuahua, Taco, was rushed to the emergency vet when I noticed he was struggling to breathe. After examination and X-rays, we received heartbreaking news – Taco has been diagnosed with mitral valve disease

which caused him to go into heart failure.

Taco had to be hospitalized for 24 hours, where he was placed in an oxygen chamber and given IV medications to drain the fluid from his lungs. While he’s now back home with us, this is just the beginning of his treatment journey.

How your donation will help

Taco needs ongoing medical care to manage his condition, including:

• An upcoming appointment with a veterinary cardiologist

• Additional diagnostic tests to determine the best treatment plan

• Daily heart medications for the rest of his life

• Potential follow-up visits and adjustments to his care

Though his time with us may be limited, with proper medical care, our little fighter could have years of quality life ahead of him. At 11 years old, Taco still has so much love to give, and we’re committed to doing everything possible to keep him comfortable and happy.

Our Goal

We’re hoping to raise $9,500 to cover:

• Emergency vet expenses: $4,200

• Cardiologist consultation and testing: $1,300

• Medications (estimated annual cost): $2,000

• Follow-up care and potential emergencies: $2,000

About Taco

Taco came into my life 4 years ago when I adopted him from the local Humane Society. He had been rescued by Animal Services from a terrible hoarding situation. When I first met him, he was suffering from mange, had a broken tail, and was severely underweight – just skin and bones. Despite everything he had been through, there was something special about his spirit that touched my heart immediately.

With love, proper care, and patience, Taco transformed into the loving, vibrant dog he is today. For the past 4 years, he has been my best friend. Despite his small size, he has the biggest heart and brings immeasurable joy to our lives every day. He loves car rides, cuddling under blankets, and has been my unwavering support through life’s ups and downs.

After everything Taco overcame in his early life, it breaks my heart to see him facing this new health challenge just when he’s been able to experience what a loving home truly feels like.
