Tacoma Needs Life-Saving Treatment

I am starting this fundraiser to help my mother and stepfather (Helene and Joey) raise the money they need to pay for Tacoma’s veterinary bills. If you know my mom and Joey, they love that dog like their child, (heck, me too, if you know us, you know I call Tacoma “my sister”) and have already spent thousands of dollars to care for her medical needs over the past few years. She started with a “conjunctivitis” years ago, then was told she had puppy strangles. Her care was then transferred to another veterinary hospital when the “puppy strangles” kept flaring despite all the medication. Tacoma has had numerous vet visits, hospital visits, specialist visits, they kept saying puppy strangles, and she has been on antibiotics and immune suppressants for a very long time per the vets orders. Most recently she was transferred to the care of Tufts Veterinary Hospital where they had her see a dermatologist. The dermatologist did tons of tests, biopsies, cultures, etc., and they found out that Tacoma has a very rare bacterial infection, burkholderia cepacia, which the doctor said was made much worse by the other vets continually saying it was just the puppy strangles and prescribing the wrong type of meds and wrecking Tacoma’s immune system in the process. Tacoma now needs to have extensive medical treatment including surgery to lance all the abcesses, reconstructive surgery to her snout and months of several times a day antibiotic injections. The doctor at Tufts said if she doesn’t get all this treatment as soon as possible, they would need to euthanize her. Tacoma is the sweetest, lovable dog ever and has been an absolute doll through all of this, taking it like a champ. My mom had retired but went back to work part time recently to make ends meet and Joey was just told his job is done beginning of summer, out sourcing overseas.
