Tackling Locust Swarms With Biopesticides

Throughout history there are records of locust plagues afflicting multiple regions across the globe. Even this year massive locust swarms are threatening the food security of communities in East Africa, Asia and the Middle East - devastating thousands of hectares of croplands. This current outbreak is the worst in recent decades and represents a recurring problem.

We, the 2020 TU Delft iGEM, are 11 motivated students dedicating six months of our time to work on our project: Phocus. Our aim is to produce a highly specific environmental friendly biopesticide to control the locust population.

We design, execute and verify our project under supervision of the Bionanoscience department at TU Delft. As a student project, we have a limited budget and resources. In order to cover the costs generated by performing research in the lab, we rely on your contribution.
