Tablets for Cross Primary & Junior High Students

Cross Primary & Junior High School is located in the low-income rural community of Palmer's Cross, Clarendon. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, schools across the island have transitioned from in-person learning to remote e-learning.  Unfortunately, a majority of Jamaican students come from families that do not have the financial resources to provide access to electronic devices and reliable internet service required for schooling. 

Although the Government of Jamaica has recognised this common challenge, and has implemented a Tablet in Schools Program, this program currently addresses the need of students in Grades 10 - 13. The Government of Jamaica remains optimistic about being able to provide further assistance for more students next year.

In the interim however, students across the island are still preparing to sit PEP exams in order to enter high school in the 2021 academic year. There are 71 students in Grade 6 at Cross Primary and 5 teachers. Our goal is to provide each student with a tablet and each teacher with a laptop in order to help ease the burden  families are facing as a result of the transition to e-learning.

The school has over 400 students who need tablets to attend classes and 25 teachers who need laptops. Our goal is currently set to meet the most pressing and immediate needs of the Grade 6 students and teachers who have the PEP exams -- conducted between March and April -- looming over their heads. 

We would love to meet this target before the end of November, so that the items can be provided to the students before the term ends and the students take their Christmas holidays.
