Tabernacle ‘Thank You’ Party
Donation protected
Tabernacle family, thank you for coming to our GoFundMe. It goes without saying that 2020 proved to be quite the challenging one for us. Some of us may have lost loved ones. Some of us may be dealing with long term effects of the virus. If you fall into that category, our prayers go out to you.
While the country shut itself down, there was one facet of the lock down that may leave many with devastating after effects once the virus is fully eradicated: education. The vast majority of schools opted for Zoom training rather than forming a hybrid method (attend two days a week, Zoom the other two) or others going back full time while still operating on Zoom for those families who felt it safer to do so.
Our school, the one we entrust with our children, chose the latter. The faculty and staff of Tabernacle showed us what leadership is and handled each bump in the road brilliantly. This was the most difficult year of teaching that any of the faculty had ever experienced. Imagine how much these teachers put on their shoulders, knowing that some children just aren't thriving by learning on the iPad. We are social creatures, especially children, and to be isolated and left to learn on their own with all of the distractions that home provides, did not provide the best year of learning for many who did not have the option of in-school learning.
The staff of Tabernacle found a way to make in-school learning as safe as possible, from the acquisition of plastic shields, to the purchase of masks (I'm hoping that doing this pays back the many masks that my own son had to use because he forgot his....lol). Every single morning, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Fraser, Mrs. Kim, Mrs. Magana and Mrs. Bates, checked temperatures and escorted our children safely across the three-lane drop off. Every. Single. Morning. The dedication to our children was on display. They invested in FetchKids, an app that alerts the staff that the parent is on the way, ensuring that any sort of exposure was next to impossible.
To know that there are so many children out there who wasted a year of their education because their school districts didn't do what our school did, breaks my heart. Families who watched their children struggle with failing grades, when previous years saw nothing but passing grades, have been left in a state of worry and concern for the future.
While I feel terribly for any family who is struggling with that situation, it shines a light on our own situation and puts everything in perspective. We are so incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated group of educators who gave everything they had so that OUR children could have a fruitful year of learning.
Here's the plan. I want to arrange a lunch for the entire faculty and staff of Tabernacle School. The lunch will be catered, and once I have the caterer picked out, I'll post that here. We would need to acquire an open-air tent as well as tables and chairs.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: I have the goal as $20,000, but I am hoping we crush that goal. Tabernacle usually raises a lot of money between the Jog-A-Thon, the back to school basket auction and the various ice cream socials and candy sales. The money raised goes into making improvements for our school as well as providing scholarship or financial assistance that might be needed.
Every dollar that we raise that does not go toward the lunch, will be a donation to the school so they won't have lost out on their usual fundraiser proceeds.
With the school year nearing completion, we do not have a lot of time to get this done. Whoever you were going to have sponsor your child for the jog-a-thon, give them the link to this. Grandparents who usually attended Grandparents Day, give them the link to this.
It's time to repay the people who gave everything they had so that our children didn't have to lose out on a year of quality education like so many others had to.
Thank you.

P.S. Each donation will be hit with a 2.69% processing fee, so please keep that in mind when donating.
