Welcome to the fundraising page of Tabernacle Baptist Church, 760 West Ave, Ocean City, NJ - a ministry housed in the oldest church building on the island.
Tabernacle Baptist Church began in 1897 as a mission serving the African American community. Our building, constructed in 1890 and purchased in 1906, was the original house of worship of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, whose first pastor, Rev. Lake, was one of Ocean City's founding fathers. Our church holds the distinction of being a locally designated historical site. Between 1999 and 2003, our building was fully and lovingly restored under the leadership of retired builder Dan Murray with significant private contributions from the community.
The church has recently re-launched under new leadership with the mission of creating a multi-ethnic fellowship "striving together as one for the faith of the gospel." Phil 1:27. In addition to regular worship services, we are committed to opening the building for historic tours and offering our facilities to the community for weddings, meetings and other Christian programming.
Your contributions will help us pay disputed taxes and legal fees, retire debt incurred from Super Storm Sandy and complete deferred maintenance. Once we have raised the funds for the taxes, we will direct remaining funds to Super Storm Sandy debt and deferred maintenance. Your support will insure that this cherished historic church and revitalized ministry remains a part of our Ocean City community. Thank you!
