Tabatha Nuner's recovery from Hurricane Hilary
Donation protected
I'm coordinating a fundraiser on behalf of fellow SAR member Tabatha Nuner (class of 2013).
Just a year ago, Tabatha purchased a home on 20 acres in Anza (Riverside County). Because she has several horses and has rescued a couple more since moving, she upgraded the property to include a number of stalls with 5 corresponding overhead shelters. Being in high desert terrain, the area is prone to extreme temperatures and variable wind speeds. On top of initial start-up costs, Tabatha invested approximately $7,500 to provide for the safety and welfare of her animals.
When Hurricane Hilary recently blew through Southern CA, the Anza area was hit hard with wind speeds later verified at over 100mph, plus a deluge! Tabatha watched helplessly as her shelters began to be lifted, peeled back and then strewn about her property. Miraculously none of the horses or other livestock were injured, though visibly shaken up.
After surveying the damage and recognizing the futility of trying to rebuild the shelters, Tabatha plans instead to purchase two 40-foot Conex boxes which can be converted into far sturdier stalls. They cost $3,500 each, delivered. She'll need to have some grading work done plus install rubber mats which, at $45/each, comes to $1,200. (IF she can find good used mats, she'll go that route.) She also lost roof shingles on several buildings but someone else is helping with that.
Tabatha is the type of person who is always thinking of and helping out others. Though she's some distance now from San Diego, she remains a dedicated SAR member who continues to serve via the Medical Unit. Please consider assisting one of our own by helping lift this financial and associated emotional burden off Tabatha.
In the event this fundraiser exceeds her needs, Tabatha will try to donate back to SAR or bequeath any leftover funds to a horse rescue organization.
Thank you for your consideration!
