On April 10th 2015, Mel was informed  that she would have to undergo an emergency intra abdominal surgery to have a mass removed. During the surgery, the doctors found that this mass was over 15cm in diameter, along with other small lesions. While beginning recovery from surgery, pathology tests were ran as we waited for results. On April 24th, at what we thought would be a routine post-op appointment, the doctors confirmed all of our worst fears, and Mel was diagnosed with Germ Cell cancer. This type of cancer is very aggressive and Mel is now going through aggressive chemotherapy. Within a matter of two weeks, her life was completely turned upside down. She was working for Metro West Ambulance and was in the middle of a volunteer firefighting academy. We as a family, are requesting your help as there will be extensive medical bills. Mel was already unable to return to work for 6-8 weeks due to her surgery, and now it will be even longer as she goes through her chemotherapy.
