and I'm raising funds for my beautiful sister Fernanda as she fiercely battles cervical cancer.

Dear Friends & Kind Strangers,

My sister Fernanda is a beautiful, strong woman and a loving mother to her two children, Leo (12) and Lia (2). In October 2023, just before Hurricane Otis devastated Acapulco, Fernanda found the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship to protect herself and her children. She escaped with nothing but the clothes on their backs but at least they were safe.

By December 2023, she began experiencing severe back pain. After finally seeing a doctor, she received the shattering diagnosis of cervical cancer. Since there are no cancer treatment facilities in Acapulco, in March 2024, Fernanda began chemotherapy and radiation in Mexico City, six hours away from home, in hope to shrink the tumour for the next 5 months. All this, while having no income. She, unfortunately, was not able to receive the same aid that was given to daycare teachers who had lost their income due to the hurricane. In order to qualify, she would have needed to be present in Acapulco which she was unable to do as she was undergoing treatment in Mexico City.

A few months after finishing treatment( with hopes to shrink her cancer), she noticed a lump in her neck. Only to later find out after another biopsy, that her cancer had unfortunately spread to her lymph nodes. The doctors recommended immediate removal and emergency chemotherapy. However, chemotherapy did not last long as her body was not able to handle the treatment.

Fast forward to present day:

The cancer removed from her lymph node (collarbone)grew back larger and erupted. Fernanda now needs this affected area that continues to expand across her neck and chest to be cleaned 3 times a week to prevent infection.

Every day counts, and without help she may not be able to get the care that could give her more time and a better quality of life.

She’s trying to be strong for her kids and continues fight , but she’s also fighting an ongoing-custody battle to gain sole custody of her two children.

This has taken an emotional and financial toll on the family , exhausting our financial reservoir.

The cleanings are needed so we can keep Fernanda as comfortable as possible during her battle from this aggressive cancer . She dreams of getting better and watch her two children grow to be able to hold them in her arms and play with them again.

Why we need your help:

Medical Expenses: Ongoing costs for necessary cleanings and follow‑up care.

Living Costs: While undergoing treatment, Fernanda has had no income.

Cover medical treatments and prescriptions(palliative medicine)

Help with transportation to medical appointments, and utilities.

Provide emotional and practical support for her children during this difficult time.
