" With a Little Help From My Friends"

Hello Everyone!
We are Dan's two sisters Laura and Cheryl Wilner, and we thank you for taking the time to read the story and support our brother and sister-in-law. For those who don't know our family, let's start from the beginning.

Dan and Abby Wilner have been making an extraordinary impact on Wytheville for almost 20 years. Everything from Abby being a counselor in town to leading painting classes to participating in community events. Dan has been leading and growing a fantastic band program and is a part of P-Flunk, a local band. Let alone those of you that have known Abby since she was a kid growing up in town herself! Speaking of kids, they are raising two smart kids of their own, Sam and Emmy.

You may be asking yourself, why has this page even been created? Why would such a well-adjusted, well-supported family need the help of a community to rally around them? Remember, we sisters decided that even though we know they can handle this on their own, they shouldn't have to, and we know that the community won't allow them to struggle during this time.

On May 12th, 2022, Abby was diagnosed with breast cancer. After having several preliminary appointments with excellent medical teams in town, Abby and Dan went to Wake Forest for a comprehensive treatment plan. As it stands now, Abby will need to have 3-6 months of chemo treatments, and then they will assess the next steps.

As we all know, Abby is strong and resilient and is bound and determined to serve her cancer an eviction notice as soon as possible! While they are at the beginning of this journey, we know that there will be a lot of expenses during this time. Everything from: gas, traveling back and forth to treatment, hotels, meals while they are not at home, lost days at work, co-pays, all of the things that we know add up so so quickly now more than ever.

While we know Dan and Abby would never ask for help, we ask for them. Please consider supporting a fantastic loving family who gives of themselves to their community day in a day out.

In the words of Jack Johnson, " It's not always easy, and sometimes life can be deceiving. I'll tell you one thing; it's always better when we're together."
