Jace Buchanan (9 yrs old) was in a terrible accident on Sept 3rd in East Haven, VT, where he was struck by a falling tree at his family’s camp. Jace was immediately flown by DHART to DHMC, where he was rushed to surgery to fix spinal injury and relieve swelling around his spinal cord. The extent of his injuries is still not fully known at this time. The road to recovery will be long and challenging. Jace’s parents, Vicky Mead and John Buchanan, will be traveling back and forth from home and the hospital for the unseeable future - trying to bring some normalcy at home for Jace’s older brother. Please consider donating if you have the ability to - anything will help their family as they begin the long road to recovery.
Thank you!
An update from Jace’s Mother, Vicky Mead:
“We just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support, it is completely overwhelming (in the best way obviously) it means the world to us. Reading the posts and messages to Jace put a smile on his beautiful face which I haven't seen much of lately. He's heard a lot of scary things the last couple days which have taken a toll on his usual happy self and that is killing me the most but seeing a glimpse of him is amazing. He is looking forward to getting his back brace so he can get out of his bed into a wheelchair and outside [hopefully within the next couple of days]. As for his physical self it seems as if he can feel everything above his knees along with his right foot although it's painful when his thighs or foot are touched, he is unable to move his legs or wiggle his toes at this time. His right arm is quite swollen due to an IV with contrast blowing out so moving is a bit difficult. We were told yesterday that obviously we have a long road ahead of us. After his stay at DHMC, however long it may be, he'll be discharged to a rehab facility either in Boston or New York.”
