Hi, my name is Lukas, and I’ve just been named to Team Canada’s Junior World Championship team in Sprint Kayak! One of only five athletes across the country to earn this spot, and the youngest on the team.
This July, I’ll represent Canada in Portugal at the Junior World Championships, and then in September again in the Czech Republic at the Olympic Hopes Regatta for U17/U16 athletes — two of the most prestigious international races for young athletes in our sport.
Sprint Kayak is a power endurance sport where age and size matter. Most athletes at Junior worlds are 18, and I’m just 16, and getting here took years of dedication, 11–13 training sessions a week, and relentless belief.
Why I’m Asking for Help
While being named to Team Canada is an incredible honour, it comes with a major financial cost.
Despite some subsidies, the travel, camps, accommodations, and equipment will cost me over $7,000.
My family does everything they can, but we simply can’t afford this on our own. I’ve already flown to Halifax on my own to attend the mandatory Junior Worlds training camp, just being here is a stretch, and we need help to get to the finish line.
What Your Support Means
By donating, you’ll be helping a young Canadian athlete live his dream, and represent our country with everything he’s got. You’re not just funding travel, you’re investing in hard work, dedication, and the belief that no matter your circumstances, you can achieve great things.
If you can give, thank you. If you can’t, sharing this link still means the world.
Let’s bring Canada to the podium together.
With gratitude,
Lukas
