Naomi is a disabled, chronically ill and neurodivergent community member who will be undergoing treatment abroad and a difficult recovery afterwards back home.
She has been chronically ill her whole life but her well-being and quality of life has been severely impacted by progressing conditions and long covid. Having been diagnosed with hEDS and multiple comorbidities it seemed like that side of things had been finally taken care of until she discovered she had another connective tissue disorder that has been taking a large toll on her life for longer and in more ways than she realized. Thankfully there is a medical treatment that can help reduce the severity of the condition and with this intervention she hopes to be able to access the life she had started to build before this condition made life inaccessible.
Between the cost of living crisis, cost of disability and additional costs of the medical intervention itself it's been difficult for her to pull everything together financially. There are many additional costs to the procedures but also costs that may arise during the recovery that just aren't possible to predict nor cover alone.
This is where community care can fill in these gaps for someone who is out of options and who's needs can be met significantly by this support.
A message from Naomi herself -
Thank you to everyone who's read, donated or shared this. It wasn't an easy decision to allow this to be set up on my behalf, but as the treatment gets closer I can see it's a necessary step forward to ensure the recovery goes smoothly. Thank you to Cír and Blezzing for their help and talking me through the processing of this decision too.
To the wider disability community, should you ever be in my position please remember that accepting community care contributes just as much as offering care and support.
