Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money for Rebekah’s Angels Foundation, which was founded to provide financial assistance to children with PTSD due to trauma. Through an extensive application process, they evaluate each individual need, and finance therapy treatments. Rebekah’s Angels believes that with every new day, comes new hope for children suffering from PTSD.
It’s exciting to say that this will be my FIFTH Boston Marathon and I am honored to be able to represent and raise money for such a wonderful organization.
As many of you know, I ran the Boston Marathon in 2013, and decided to stop working as a business professional, and enroll in nursing school after my experience that day. I was about five minutes from the finish line when the race came to an abrupt stop, and I ran towards the chaos and commotion to help. From that day on, I knew that I was working in the wrong profession. My experience that day made me realize that I wanted to help people and what better way to accomplish that than to become a nurse.
I also quickly learned I wanted to focus on trauma nursing, and through hard work and dedication, I am now a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit.
The Founder and president of Rebekah’s Angels is Rebekah Gregory and she is also one of the seventeen amputees of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. She and her young son Noah, were among the crowd of spectators, less than three feet from where the first bomb was placed. Rebekah and her son suffered from PTSD after the tragic events that day, but to see how strong they both have become, and to start an organization to help others is why I am so proud to be running and representing this year on behalf of them.
The Boston Marathon will forever hold a special place in my heart. The energy that the spectators bring, and the amount of people that come out to cheer on every single runner is truly what makes this race so amazing.
