Support for Lindsay

We are a group of Lindsay’s close friends, who are coming together from all ages, cultures, walks of life, and different stages of Lindsay’s life to support our dear friend. We are raising funds to cover medical bills, rent, food, transportation, and salary lost due to her cancer treatment.

In late 2019, Lindsay was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her medical care was interrupted by the pandemic. As COVID-19 cases rose, Lindsay’s treatment was postponed or modified by her medical team to reduce her visits to hospitals. Although this kept her safer from COVID, it compromised her cancer treatment. (This is why Lindsay has consistently been encouraging people not to take non-essential trips or other risks—especially in the early pandemic—because of their impact on vulnerable communities’ medical care.)

In early June 2021, doctors believed that Lindsay was making great progress in her cancer treatment. However, by late June 2021, by happenstance, her medical oncology team realized that her breast cancer had metastasized. For a long time, she had been feeling pain in her neck, but her medical team assumed it was not related to breast cancer. She received other explanations for her pain, but only much later were they able to link her pain to cancer.

If the stress of cancer and the astronomical medical bills were not enough, the process for getting reasonable accommodations in the workplace was so slow that her medical team put her on medical leave. She submitted the paperwork for the accommodations request in late July 2021, but there was no clear answer to the request three weeks later. When Lindsay updated her medical team on the speed with which her office was handling the accommodations process, her medical team did not think the process was worth jeopardizing her health; therefore, they put her on medical leave.

Lindsay is now on medical leave. All funds collected here will go toward her medical expenses, as well rent, food, transportation, and other costs that she is accruing without her full salary. Any amount you can give makes a difference and shows Lindsay that she is not alone.
