Shaun McKinnon has a lot of gifts, but perhaps his greatest is his ability to make sincere and lasting friendships. He treats everyone he meets like his new best friend, and every time you speak to him, you can feel how much he cares about you. He's fun and uninhibited and hilarious. But more than that, he's compassionate and kind, which makes him a wonderful father, husband, neighbor, and friend.
On March 30, 2015, at the young age of 53, Shaun had a massive blood clot that burst into countless smaller blood clots, scattering through his body like a dandelion in the wind. We waited and watched as they damaged his kidneys and heart and caused multiple strokes. While he was in the hospital, the doctors also discovered that Shaun's arteries were almost entirely blocked, so a septuple bypass was performed.
Shaun has lost the ability to move his left leg and arm, as well as the ability to eat, speak, and move his eyes. His road to recovery will be long, difficult, and expensive. In addition to the weeks-long stay in the ICU and open-heart surgery, he will require long-term treatment in a rehabilitation facility. As a self-employed husband and father of seven children, he is no longer able to support his family or his medical needs. Shortly after Shaun's hospitalization, his devoted wife Denise's brother Dennis unexpectedly passed away. The McKinnon family is so grateful for all your love, service, and prayers. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support of our neighbors and friends. If you are able, please donate whatever you can to help us cover the extensive medical costs. Thank you.
