DISASTER FUND

Dustin and I moved from Vancouver Island to Northern BC, so we could help support Dustins family, as his terminally ill father lived out his few last weeks.

We moved into my in laws travel trailer at the beginning of July and began to help my mother in law with things she needed around the property. As well as, be able to settle down and start a life here ourselves. Dustin spent weeks cleaning out and organizing his dad’s shop, collecting things his siblings would like in memory of their dad. Dustins father, Brock Ruchotzke passed peacefully at home on July 23, 2024 surrounded by his family and close friends. The shop quickly became a sentimental place to heal the loss of Brock during that time.

Dustin and his siblings were going through the things their father had collected over the years hidden away in shop, sharing memories of their dad they had growing up.

On August 3rd, 2024 we got a phone call saying the shop and trailer are on fire. Thankfully the Thornhill Fire Department was amazing and had the fire under control so it didn’t touch my mother in laws house besides some smoke damage.

Dustin and I have lost everything we own in this fire but have to say we are extremely grateful that our animals were not there at the time of the fire, and no one was seriously injured. Unfortunately everything that was inside the shop is gone except a few wrenches and small tool box’s.

We are asking for help to replace some of the possessions we lost as well as help my mother in law, Brenda with the cost of rebuilding the shop.

08/08/2024 Update- unfortunately we have just learned that the shop will not be covered through insurance but luckily the travel trailer is. We have a plan to rebuild the shop and name it “Brock’s Place” in honour of Dustin’s dad. Thank you so much to those who have reached out, donated and have stopped by the house
