Hello!

I am making this go fund me to hopefully help my daughter and my grandpuppy a little bit in this stressful time.

8/24- Erika expressed worry of Zola gaining weight and sleeping too much. Being that she is 9 years old, we chalked it up to being normal and to just work on her activity levels.
8/29- Zola threw up for the first time. Erika figured she got into the garbage or ate something she didn’t agree with. At this point, watching very closely and giving her easy on the tummy food.
9/2- This day Zola rapidly declined. Her stomach looked very swollen, she wouldn’t eat, throwing up stomach acid and was becoming extremely lethargic. She was admitted to the closest emergency room. After bloodwork and ultrasound, they determined she was positive for pyometra- a life threatening infection of the uterus as well as tumors in her ovaries. She was immediately scheduled for surgery and operated on that night!
9/4 - Zola gets to come home and recover! Erika is caretaking around the clock for the next week. Carrying her upstairs and downstairs everytime she needed to use the bathroom, cleaning and protecting her incision, medications every few hours, and ensuring she was eating. Recovery was going well and Zola was getting better.
9/9 - Zola starts bleeding vaginally and goes to the emergency room yet again. Now finding out she got ecoli from surgery.. another life threatening infection. They gave Zola some antibiotics specifically for that and sent her home. Just a matter of time to see how she responded to them
9/12 - culture results come in from initial visit, they call Zola back in for new bloodwork. They want to check for any residual cancer or any markers in her blood. As well as check her organs for any lingering infection

As of today, Erika is waiting on bloodwork results for anything further. Zola is recovering well. She has stopped bleeding, eating good, and her incision site looks great. Erika has begged and pleaded for me not to make a gofundme. She understands her dog is her financial responsibility. However I know shes a single woman all the way in Florida fully supporting herself and Zola alone. The cost is nearing $6k not including lost wages from all the time off work. She maxed out her care credit card and is pulling money out of wherever she can to make sure her dog is okay. I have helped where I can but I also just had surgery. She has missed out on two weeks of work caretaking. She has called me many times crying thinking that day was her dogs last day. She has handled all of this alone without any of her close friends or family for support. If any of you know my daughter- she loves that dog more than anything and has been the biggest part of her life for almost a decade, moving to a new city, town, or state almost every year, Zola has always been her constant. This month has been extremely difficult for her and I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask the communities help to take a little weight of her shoulders. Even if it’s $5 or a simple share, it can make a big difference in the growing medical costs.

$180- animal hospital fee, just to see a vet
$1,128- blood work and ultrasound, hospital fees
$3,872- her amazing surgeon actually gave her an huge discount on the surgery, it was estimated to be about two grand more but she was determined to keep total cost under $5k
